YOUTH FOOTBALL OVERVIEW
The Fall Youth Football League is jointly managed by Hood River Valley Parks + Recreation District and Hood River Valley Youth Football
Who can sign up: 1st - 6th graders (2024-2025 School Year)
Program Description
The HRV Youth Football model is designed to be a smarter and safer way to play and teach the game. By establishing different levels of contact and game types at each game category, parents can identify the right entry point for their athlete. Teams compete in the Gorge Youth Football League which includes teams from Corbett, Stevenson, Carson, White Salmon, The Dalles, Goldendale and Hood River. Travel throughout the Gorge is expected.
First practices Week of August 12th (conditioning)
First League Game Saturday, September 7th
Practice Locations: Hood River Valley HS, WyEast Middle School and HR Middle School
Home Game Locations: Hood River Valley High School
Away Game Locations: The Dalles, White Salmon (WA), Corbett, Stevenson, and Goldendale (WA)

AGE DIVISIONS + TEAMS + PRACTICE INFO
1st-2nd Grade Flag
Following the USA Football progression, athletes will wear flags as their only football issued equipment. Flag football focuses on throwing, passing, running, blocking, and defending in a non-contact 7 vs 7 game.

3rd-4th Contact Flag
Continuing in USA Football's progression, athletes will wear full gear (Helmet, Shoulder Pads, Leg Pads) but still have an element of flag football. Ball carriers are not tackled to the ground, but rather their flag is pulled to stop progression of the football. The game's focus is to introduce athletes to wearing full gear, block, throw, run, and defend in a 8 vs 8 shortened and narrower field.

5-6th Grade Rookie Tackle
In USA Football's last progression, we offer "Rookie Tackle". Rookie tackle is full contact rules, while also using a shorter and narrower field. There are a few procedures that assist in the advancement to full field, full contact football beginning in 7th grade.
