WINTER ADULT ACTIVITIES

PROGRAM OVERVIEW

Join us for Hood River Adult Chess Night at Working Hands in Hood River. This welcoming adult program is designed for all experience levels — whether you are brand new to chess, getting back into the game, or looking for friendly competition.

Each week will include casual/social play, optional competitive games, fun pairings, and a relaxed community atmosphere. Come solo or bring a friend — beginners and new players are welcome.

Who Should Join?

Hood River Chess Night is designed for adults 21+ of all experience levels. New to chess? Getting back into the game? Looking for friendly competition? Join us for a relaxed weekly chess night with casual games, optional competitive play, and a welcoming community atmosphere.

Format

Hood River Chess Night will offer two ways to participate:

1. Casual/Social Play

   Perfect for players who want a relaxed, low-pressure environment. This option is great for beginners, casual players, and anyone who wants to enjoy chess without worrying about standings.

2. Optional Competitive Track

   Players who want more structured games can participate in competitive pairings and standings throughout the season.

The season will wrap up with a Swiss-style tournament and fun/social awards so everyone can keep playing and be part of the final night.

• December 2, 9, 16 and January 6, 13, 20

• Time: 6:00–8:00 PM

• Location: Working Hands, Hood River

• Ages: 21+

• Season Registration: $50 Early Bird through Oct 26 / $65 Normal fee

• Drop-In Registration: $10 per night

• Day-of Registration: Available

Why the Competitive Div. price increase? We are hiring certified officials for the Competitive Division this season!  

This division is your basic competitive division; players have varying playing experience and teams will experience a fun but competitive environment   

Competitive teams start with 6 on the court (must include at least two players who are female). Teams will play 1 game per week with doubleheaders scheduled as needed throughout season. Each team guaranteed 7 regular-season games, with a playoffs tournament to culminate the season. 

Team registration:

• Early Bird Fee through Oct 26: $605.00

• Normal Fee $630.00 

Free Agents: $80.00/player

Officials: This division provides one main “Up Ref”

Game days:  

• Sundays in February (gyms not available weekdays due to youth basketball season) 

• Thursdays in March - April  

Roster size: 12 players max  

Game Location: HRCSD gyms

Team Manager Meeting:

Thurs., Jan. 21 / 6:00 - 7:00 pm / Location: Hood River Aquatics Center 

Tentative Practices in January and February:  

• Sundays: Jan 24, 31 and Feb 7  

• Time: 4:30 pm - 8:30 pm / Location: TBD

• Early Bird Fee through Oct 26: $475.00

• Normal Team fee $500.00 

Free Agent: $70.00/player

Officials: Teams provide volunteer line judges

Game days:  

• Sundays in February (gyms not available weekdays due to youth basketball season) 

• Tuesdays in March - April

Program Description:

It has been called many things – Corn Toss, Bean Bag, Bean Toss, Soft Horseshoes, and Indiana Horseshoes – but to many of us the game is passionately known as Cornhole. Cornhole is a game in which small bags are tossed at a target consisting of an inclined wooden platform with a hole at one end. Teams will have two primary members and the option to sign on two additional alternates. The Fall League consists of four game dates and a playoff tournament.

Program Description:

Players ages 14 and up can sign up for this league. Players in this league have varying playing experience and teams will experience a friendly, fun and competitive atmosphere. Teams will play 5 v 5 (no goalies). Max roster size 10. Teams will play 1 game per week. Game days will be Sunday afternoons.

Each team guaranteed 6-7 games plus a single game elimination playoff tournament

• Tentative League Game dates: Sundays, Jan 17 - Feb 21

• Tentative Playoff dates: Fri, Feb 26 + Sun, Feb 28
