Hood River Valley Parks and Recreation District Secures Grant to Purchase Parkdale Park
The Hood River Valley Parks and Recreation District (HRVPRD) is proud to announce that it has been awarded a grant from the Oregon Parks and Recreation Department’s (OPRD) Local Government Grant Program (LGGP) to purchase Parkdale Park.
This grant will facilitate the permanent protection of a 4.1-acre property located at 4993 Baseline Drive in Parkdale, Oregon. The land, which has been privately owned yet enjoyed by the public for decades as a community gathering space and park, will now be preserved under public ownership for generations to come.
The project was made possible through the generous contribution of landowner Michael Mills, who agreed to sell the property to HRVPRD at a reduced price. The remaining funding will be secured through System Development Charges (SDCs), fees collected on new development in the area.
Once finalized, this acquisition will ensure continued public access to a beloved open space in the heart of Parkdale. The site offers breathtaking views of Mt. Hood, mature trees, and expansive green areas — a cherished location for recreation, picnicking, and community events.
HRVPRD is now working with OPRD to complete the necessary steps, including the formal project agreement and Notice to Proceed, to move forward with the purchase.
This effort highlights HRVPRD’s commitment to preserving and enhancing the natural beauty and recreational opportunities for all residents and visitors.
