Hood River Valley Water Polo

We are a premier USA Water Polo club based in Hood River, Oregon, developing elementary through high school athletes into confident competitors, strong teammates, and disciplined leaders both in and out of the pool.


  • All players must have an active USAWP Membership (renewed annually) in order to participate in HRVWP/ 

    In order to register: 

    1. Register on USAWP for the Splashball Pass Holder ($25 for Elementary age only) or Bronze Athlete ($60 for Middle and HS age) Membership HERE: https://usawaterpolo.org/sports/membership

      • Click "join today"

      • Set up an account

      • If you are a parent/ guardian click on "register for somebody else"

      • Under membership, add your player, go to Splashball (elementary age) or Bronze Athlete (grades 6-12) and click through the process

      • HRVWP is a USAWP club and our ID# is 21287 

      • Make sure to note your USAWP membership number. You will need that for your next step

    2. Register for the age appropriate HRVWP Session under "Session Registration" on this website

    3. Send your player on their first day with a copy of your USAWP Membership Form.

    Note: USAWP Membership covers our insurance, HRVWP fees cover pool, coaching and equipment fees. Players should not have to pay additionally to enter the HR Pool for water polo sessions. Suits, googles and other gear are not included. In addition, there may be additional fees for tournaments, however, participation is optional. 

    Scholarships available upon request and are based on financial need

  • For players new to water polo, we are offering a free 14-day Trial Athlete Membership to make sure your kids like water polo. This trial is ONGOING throughout the year (available only once per player as first-time membership). You can try any of our weekly scheduled water polo practices for 2 weeks to see if HRWP is a good fit.

    To register for the 14 day trial: 

    1. Register on USAWP for the Trial Athlete Membership HERE: https://usawaterpolo.org/sports/membership

      • Click "join today"

      • Set up an account

      • If you are a parent/ guardian click on "register for somebody else"

      • Under membership, add your player, go to Trial Athlete and click through the process

      • HRVWP is a USAWP club and our ID# is 21287

      • The USAWP trial should coincide with your HRVWP start date. 

      • Make sure to note your USAWP membership number. You will need that for your next step

    2. Register for HRVWP 14 day Trail Session under "Session Registration" on this website

    3. See calendar for practice times for the grade level of your player

    4. Send your player on their first day with a copy of your USAWP Trial Athlete Membership Form.

    5. At the end of the 14-day trial, if you wish to continue:

      • Click on the Registration for the practice session for your player and complete registration. You will need to pay your registration fee by week two.

      • You will need to upgrade your USA Water Polo Membership to either Splashball Pass Holder or Bronze level (depending on your players age group)

    If you do not wish to continue, nothing is required.  We hope that you will consider trying water polo again.

    HRVWP's High School program's main focus is to provide year round training for water polo players playing and interested in playing High School water polo and beyond.  Our program is also designed to help players, of any ability prepare for the upcoming high school water polo season, local USAWP competitions and hopefully,  College Club, Community College, D1, D2, & D3 College levels of play.  All players focus on improving fundamental water polo skills and strategy while enhancing their overall fitness in the water.    

    ​All players focus on improving proper body positioning both offense and defense, introduction to dynamic driving water polo incorporating a dynamic center, improving of traditional water polo tactics, and proper passing and shooting technique. The HS program is open to boys and girls ages 14-18 years old. Players 14 years old must be currently enrolled in high school.  Players 14 years old and not in high school, with coaches approval, can practice with this group. 

    PRACTICE: Practice starts after the HS Club season is over- NOTE this club is NOT the Hood River Valley High School team.  They run separately, and information can be found on Facebook page, SportsYou or on the HRVHS Athletics page. After the HS season is over, our club practices will resume. 

    High School Age Minimum Requirements:

    • Must be able to swim a strong 200 free, back and/or breast.

    • Must be able to tread water for 2 minutes.

  • Tuesdays & Thursdays | 4 - 5:30pm

    HRVWP's Middle School Program is coed and designed to help players develop skills and fundamentals, preparing athletes to transition into high school water polo. The program is offered all year for players 14 years old and younger. All players focus on improving fundamental water polo skills and strategy while enhancing their overall fitness in the water. In addition to practices, the team will compete in various tournaments and scrimmages. Class size limit: 30

    PRACTICES: Due to the HS season being in the fall and limited pool space, middle school polo usually starts after the New Year. Practice days vary but typically start at 4:00.

     ​Middle School Age Minimum Requirements:

    • Must be able to swim a strong 100 free, back and/or breast without assistance.

    • Must be able to tread water for 2 minutes.

  • Saturdays | 9-10am

    HRVWP's Elementary School Program is coed and is offered to players in 3-5th grade.  Players will learn basic water polo skills while improving their overall fitness in the water. In addition to practices, the team will compete in various tournaments and scrimmages. Like all programs at HRVWP, coaches emphasize teaching proper water polo fundamentals to all players. Class size limit: 20

    PRACTICES: Due to the HS season being in the fall and limited pool space, elementary school polo usually starts after the holiday break.

    Elementary School Program Age minimum requirements:

    • Must be able to swim 50 yards without assistance and be deep water safe.

    • Comfortable with basic freestyle, backstroke and breaststroke

    • Must be able to tread water for 1 minute.
