Westside Park

In early August, 2021, our board of directors voted unanimously to purchase 20 acres of land on the west side of Hood River, located on Fairview Drive and adjacent to Elementary School.

To see if the land is a good fit for a park, we had to determine what park features the community wants, how much it might cost to build and maintain the park, and whether there are issues that we might need to consider along the way.

We got a lot of feedback from the community about whether the land was a good fit for a park. We held five stakeholder focus group meetings, completed an online survey, and held a virtual open house to talk about the project.

In early August, the consultant team from Walker Macy gave a summary presentation of their findings about the site, reporting that the site is of sufficient scale and configuration for a community park for the residents of the Parks District.

When will the park be built?

At this time, the Parks District does not have the funds to develop and maintain a park, but by purchasing the land now, we are laying the groundwork for future generations and staying ahead of growth.

Even though we can’t build a park at this time, the consultant team, Walker Macy, came up with a some designs for the site, based off of the studies they performed on the land and the feedback they received from the community. The design below is just a concept.
