Occasionally, certain facilities within the Aquatic Center may be closed or have limited operating hours due to repairs, maintenance, inclement weather, holidays and/or special events. When possible, the dates and times of closings will be posted in advance. Check the schedule on our home page to see special closures, etc.

Open Swim

During open swim the shallow and deep ends of the recreation pool are open to all swimmers.  Floating mats are available for use in the deep end, as well as a slide, basketball hoop, and rope swing.

 

**Children 7 years or younger must be accompanied in the Aquatic Center by an adult or responsible supervisor at least 13 years old.  Non-swimmers must be accompanied into the water by an adult or responsible supervisor at least 13 years old in a 3:1 ratio.**

Therapy Pool - Adults Only

The therapy pool is heated to approximately 93 degrees and provides and excellent resource for therapeutic exercise.  Closely supervised children may accompany an adult into the water during adult times in a 3:1 ratio.

 

** District reserves the right to hold lessons in 1/2 the pool at any time.**

Therapy Pool - All Ages

The therapy pool is a great place for younger children not ready to venture into the deeper recreation pool.  The pool ranges in depth from 3 feet 3 inches to 4 feet and noodles provide a great tool to help parents teach vital swimming skills.

** Children 8 & older may be asked to use
the recreation pool when crowded. **

Lap Swim

Lap swim is open to anyone 15 years and older who wishes to swim for fitness.  Competitive swimmers under 15 may obtain approval from the Aquatic Center manager.  Kickboards, pull buoys, swim fins and a pace clock are available.

Wading Pool

The wade pool is a zero entry to 1 1/2 foot deep pool for parents and small children.  Toys are provided for use within the wade pool area.

Water Aerobics

Water aerobics classes offer a great workout without the stress and impact on your joints caused by other types of exercise.  Both the shallow and deep ends of the pool are incorporated within workouts.  Classes are free with paid pool admission. More info...

Swim Team/Masters

Hood River Valley Swim Team is open to children ages 5 to 15.  The team practices every weekday, but not all swimmers are required to swim all days.  Fees range from $25-$30 with an additional annual $30 fee to United States swimming.  In order to join the team, children must be able to swim 25 yards (1 length of the pool) using crawl stroke and at least somewhat on their back.  Coach Shelley Rawding is available to answer questions during practice or at (509) 493-4679.  Adults interested in the Masters swim program should contact Shelley.

Kayaking

Bring your own equipment and come early, as space is limited to 25 boats.  Contact Gorge Paddling at (541) 386-9343 or Columbia Gorge Kayaking School at (541) 308-0282 for information about lessons and rental. More info...
