The pool is open!

The weather outside is frightful, but the pool is so delightful.  We make every effort to stay open during inclement weather and will always post on our website, on our facebook page, and our voicemail is we close early due to the weather.  WE ARE OPEN today, December 2.  We will have an impromptu no school open swim from 1-3:30 for all you parents wondering what to do with your kiddos.  The slide and rope swing will be open!


Pool to open late Saturday, October 31st

The Hood River Aquatic Center will open at 11:30am on Saturday, Oct 31st, Halloween, due to a Hood River Valley High School Water Polo Game.  Come join us for lap swim at 11:30am .  Open swim will start at 1:00pm with a $1 + 1 Can of food entry fee.  The canned food will benefit the FISH food bank.

Sign Up for Adult Swim Lessons

We are excited to announce that we are offering swim lessons for adults who would like to learn to swim.  This class is appropriate for middle school aged students through adults.  The classes will focus on becoming more comfortable in the water, basic survival skills and swim strokes.  The session will run on Mondays from October 5 – November 9th from 4-4:45pm.



Annual Maintenance

The pool will be closed for annual maintenance from Tuesday, September 8 through Sunday, September 20.  Annual and three month pass holders will have their passes extended for the time the pool is closed.

o   Tuesday, August 11: 4-8pm

o   Wednesday, August 12: 10:30am – 4:30pm

o   Tuesday, August 18: 10:30am – 4:30pm

o   Thursday, August 20: 4-8pm




–       Attendance at all classes is required.

–       You must be at least 15 years old. Identification must be presented when registering for the course at the front desk. (Driver’s license, birth certification, passport, etc)

–       On the first day of class, you will be required to pass the prerequisite fitness class in order to continue with the course.  You will be required to do the following:

  • You must be able to swim 300 meters (freestyle or breaststroke) continuously.
  • You must be able to swim 20 meters, retrieve a diving brick from the bottom of the pool, and swim it with your face out of the water and the brick’s top out of the water in one minute and forty seconds or less.
  • You must be able to tread water for two minutes without using your hands.




  • $150 for the Lifeguard, First Aid, & CPR for Health professional certification is due upon the completion of the prerequisite fitness test.  Please pay on the first day of class.  Checks should be made to HRVPRD.

* Please note: The lifeguard course does not guarantee you an employment position with the Hood River Valley Parks and Recreation District.  However, if you are interested in working with us, please fill out an application form and turn it in at the front desk!

Budget and Business Meetings Announced

A public meeting of the Budget Committee of the Hood River Valley Parks and Recreation District, Hood River County, State of Oregon, to discuss the budget for the fiscal year Jul 1, 2015 to June 30, 2016, will be held at 1601 May Street, Hood River, Oregon.  The meeting will take place on April 15, 2015 at 5:30 pm.  The purpose of this meeting is to receive the budget message and to receive comment from the public on the budget.  This is a public meeting where deliberation of the Budget Committee will take place.  Any person may appear at the meeting and discuss the proposed programs with the Budget Committee.  A copy of the budget document may be inspected or obtained on or after April 9, 2015 between the hours of 9:00 am and 4:00 pm.

The Hood River Valley Parks and Recreation District Board of Directors will hold a regular business meeting on April 15, 2015, commencing at 7:00 pm at the Aquatic Center.
