Learn to Swim: Levels 1-5

It is common for students to repeat a level before moving on to the next level.

Level 1:

In this class students will learn how to blow bubbles, submerge their head and coordinate breathing.  With assistance they will float on their front and back and begin to coordinate the basics of freestyle.

Level 1 1/2:

Students will focus on independent swimming: floating, streamline kicking, and freestyle.  With assistance they will learn the basics of rotary breathing, backstroke, and treading water.

Level 2:

Students will be introduced to swimming in deep water, diving, and feet first surface diving.  They will begin to refine their freestyle and rotary breathing, work on their backstroke and treading water, and learn breaststroke kick.

Level 3:

This class will take place in the recreation pool and will focus on building endurance, refining strokes, diving and building on deep water safety.  With assistance they will learn breaststroke and butterfly.

Level 4:

This class is designed to prepare students for competition by refining their freestyle and backstroke.  They will work on their breaststroke, butterfly, open turns, and diving.  They will learn side-stroke and elementary backstroke.

Level 3/4:

This class combines skills learned in Level 3 and 4.  If class size exceeds maximum capacity, the class will be divided into two classes according to skill level.

Level 4/5:

This class is designed to prepare students for competitive swimming.  The focus will be on increasing endurance, refining strokes, and learning competitive starts and turns.

    Private lessons are also available.
